In 1991 the infamous Cradle of Filth released their debut album The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh. For any of you Nu Metal kids who listen to this band you've probably never heard of anything before Damnation and a Day, let alone this album. This album is pure Black Metal.

The first track is Darkness Our Bride (Jugular Wedding). Its one of Cradle's usual instrumental introductions and its just Benjamin playing the same thing over and over on the keyboards and at the end Dani whispers something. Nothing special, but it leads into one of the best tracks this band has ever created The Principle of Evil Made Flesh. Once again, if you've never heard this album be prepared for a surprise. Dani starts this track off with one of his demonic screams only it doesnt sound like it normally does. His vocals on this album are more raspy than they've ever been. Nick drumming on this song is mostly blast beats. After about a minute you hear the keyboards come in and then there's a quick solo. The song slows down and some female vocals come in. Then the guitars come back in and the song speeds up and Dani screams like a banshee. At about three and a half minutes Robin comes in with some rarely heard bass. Then the song pretty much repeats itself.

Next up is one of my favorite Cradle songs ever, The Forest Whispers My Name. It starts off with some keyboards and a some more bass. This song changes pace quite a bit. It starts off slow, but Dani comes in with one of his usual screams and it picks up. Nick plays mostly blast beats on this song too (what a surprise). Around 2:15 the song slows up and the chorus comes in. After the chorus it stays at a very slow pace for about a minute then gets back into the normal rhythm. With about a minute left the song gets really fast and stays like that until the end of the song. The next song Iscariot is another instrumental track which is just a heart beating with the keyboards and the sound of rain in the background.

The Black Goddess Rises is next. This song opens with the sound of a door creaking and then the keyboards come in. Dani then lets out another scream and talks regularly for a couple seconds. Then the song picks up and becomes pretty fast. The guitars and drums kick in for about a minute and a half of brutality. Then it gets very symphonic and very slow. Dani starts talking/screaming with the guitars and drums playing very slowly in the background. That goes on for about a minute. A female's voice comes in and says something. Dani comes back in along with the female vocals. At about 4:40 the bass comes in and the song picks back up. More blast beats and another quick solo and then with about a minute left it gets slow again and Dani starts talking again. It stays pretty slow until the end of the song.

The next song is One Final Graven Kiss. Its just Benjamin playing for about 2 minutes. Nothing special there. A Crescendo Of Passion Bleeding comes next and this is probably the fastest and heaviest song on the album. Nick plays like a mad man on this song. Dani sounds more like he does now on this song because his vocals are mostly the banshee style scream the whole time. Blast beats and tremelo picked guitars dominate this song. For the first time keyboards arent the main instrument. At about 4 minutes the song slows up, but after about a minute it goes into a pretty good solo and that takes us to the end of the song.

To Eve The Art Of Witchcraft is next. It starts off with what sounds like an organ that you would hear in a church or something, but then pure madness kicks in. Blast beats once again and some fast playing by both of the Paul's. Nick plays a normal beat with Benjamin playing his organ like keyboards in the background. Dani trades off vocals with the female vocalist again. About 2 minutes into the song it picks up and gets very fast again. That keeps up for about 30 seconds and then it gets very slow. The guitars become very melodic and once again there is some very good bass playing from Robin. You can still here the organ like keyboards in the background of all of this. At about 3:50 all the instruments stop and the female vocalist talks for about 40 seconds and then Dani comes in with the screams again with a very slow drum beat playing. The song ends after that.

My favorite song on the album, Of Mist and Midnight Skies is next. The first time i heard this song i thought of horror movies. The intro sounds like it could've come right out of one. The keyboards keep up for about a minute and then the drums and guitars come in very slowly. This song is very slow and creepy mostly the whole time. At about 1:55 is my favorite part on this whole album. Dani screams "OF MIST AND MIDNIGHT SKIES" in his banshee voice and it gave me chills the first time i heard it. After that its mostly Dani talks most of this song. It gets pretty fast around 4:15, but it only lasts for a couple seconds. With about 40 seconds left Benjamin plays the horror movie like keyboards for the rest of the song. Up next is another instrumental called In Secret Love We Drown. You've probably come to expect Benjamin playing his keyboards and thats exactly what you get along with some water running in the background.

The next song, A Dream of Wolves In the Snow, has a guest appearance by Darren White from Anathema (at the time). He does the vocals for this song. Its a very slow, almost Doom Metal like song and very melodic. The song is only about 2 minutes long. Next up is one of the most well known Cradle songs Summer Dying Fast. It starts off with some fast drumming by Nick and an insane scream by Dani. Then comes probably the best guitar playing on the album by Paul A and Paul R. It slows up at about 1 minute and Dani talks in a deep voice for a couple seconds with the keyboards going in the background. After about 25 seconds it picks up again with everything going very fast all at once. It pretty much stays the same for the entire song. It gets very slow at the end and then the song fades out. The last track is called Imperium Tenebrarum. Its just the owner of Cacophonous Records (i think his name is Nihil) talking in a demonic like voice with some women talking along with him at the end. Its pretty pointless, but also pretty cool.

Well this is definitely one of the best COF albums that there is out there and definitely a classic in my opinion. Theres nothing really wrong with it at all. If you are more into the recent albums i would get this because it would be a nice change, plus its better.
